Chubu

The Heart of Japan

The Chubu region, located in the central part of Honshu, Japan's main island, is known for its diverse geography and cultural heritage. It encompasses several prefectures, including Niigata, Toyama, Ishikawa, Fukui, Nagano, Yamanashi, Gifu, and Aichi.

The region features the Japanese Alps, offering stunning mountainous landscapes, ideal for skiing in winter and hiking in summer. Mount Fuji, Japan's iconic peak, is located to the south, straddling both Yamanashi and Shizuoka prefectures.

Chubu is also famous for its hot springs, known as "onsen," particularly in places like Hakone and Gifu. Additionally, the region is home to historic sites such as Takayama's traditional old town, Shirakawa-go with its gassho-zukuri farmhouses, and Kanazawa's well-preserved samurai and geisha districts.

Culturally, Chubu is rich in traditions, including crafts like pottery and lacquerware, particularly in the regions of Mino and Echizen. The area is also noted for its culinary offerings, including Hida beef and seafood from the Sea of Japan.

Chubu serves as a transportation hub, with Nagoya, the capital of Aichi Prefecture, being one of Japan's major cities and a critical point for the Shinkansen (bullet train) network, making it easily accessible for travellers exploring the region.
